Banned Books of the Bible: Translation

Banning books has always been about changing the way people think. But you don’t have to ban the whole book to do that; you can just edit it. Change words here or there, like when Texas school textbooks called slaves immigrants and workers. Just as powerful are word choices in translation. Languages can be quite different in how they communicate the same thing. For example, the Spanish phase for “how old are you?” is literally “how many years do you have?” Ancient Greek and Hebrew, the original languages of the Bible, are even more different from modern English. Word choices have to be made, and even small differences in words can have big differences in meaning. Come find out more this Sunday at 9:30am. — Pastor Mia
