Scripture is full of signs of God — feeding thousands, casting out demons, healing people, raising people from the dead. We’re told these signs are for a reason — to bring us to trust in Jesus.
Sometimes it feels like the signs are to impress us, to show us how great God is. Like we are walking around saying, “if you really are God, you’ll cure my loved one (or myself, or whoever).” That’s not how signs work. God is not transactional. God is not trying to convince us into faith. In fact, everyone who Jesus fed will be hungry again. Everyone who Jesus healed or raised from the dead will eventually die. The signs are to bring us to trust. They are God revealing, God showing, God letting us practice hearing the divine voice.
