In 1800’s a special edition of the Bible was created for missionaries working with enslaved people. It’s missing huge amounts of the Bible: 90% of the Old Testament and 50% of the New Testament is omitted.
Fredric Douglas once heard a master say that teaching Blacks to read made them bad slaves. Apparently, so did hearing the whole Bible. We talk about Christ setting us free, but that kind of promise is so much more profound for people in slavery. How is the Bible threatening to the institution of slavery? And how did this edit make it less threatening? Come find out.
Sermon series continues this Sunday. Worship at 9:30am.
