This Sunday we’ll hear James talk about God’s wisdom and living a holy life, which always is
about the way you live.
James has been criticized for not talking about Jesus enough in his letter to the church, but
James echoes Jesus with a strong emphasis on living it out. Jesus said, “if you want the place of honor, you must become a slave and serve others!” James said, “It’s the way you live, not the way you talk, that counts.”
God has called each one of us to be part of building God’s kingdom. Here on earth, serving
others with our unique gifts and transforming the world. Our Christian faith sets us apart in the way that we serve, serving without expectation of repayment or benefit. It’s one way that the Christian lifestyle is so counter cultural.
Our call to service is both within the church and without. How are you contributing to your
church community? How are you making the world a better place? And how has God blessed you in your service?
