This Sunday we’ll begin Holy Week with Jesus’s entrance into Jerusalem. He was pretty famous and a big crowd cheered him on. When he reached the city, he wept. He wept! His heart broke at the lack of faith, at the rejection of peace, at that lack of recognizing that God was with them. And it drove him into action. He cleaned the temple, he taught at the temple, and it will drive him all the way to crucifixion and death.
Lament drives us to action too. What we lament often determines what action we will take. So lament deeply. Feel the sorrow, the frustration, the grief, the repentance. Feel it fully. Ask for God for guidance, giving you a vision of the world God dreams of, and then let that lament drive you into action.
