Parables were Jesus’ preferred teaching strategy. There are 49 of these stories with meaning in the gospels and 16 of them are only in Luke. Most parables use everyday occurrences of listeners and then have layers of meaning so they continue teaching us through our faith journey. The parables in Luke share a common theme, of God’s blessing and notice of the lowly. Over and over we hear parables of uplifting humility, generosity, contrition.
God’s grace is always a gift that we are not entitled to, but God gives generously. Humility and contrition approach that gift with honesty. Generosity shares that gift with others.
