LAMENT & HONESTY

I find lament difficult. Or maybe it’s the honesty part I find challenging. Merely the act of naming my sorrow and grief seems to intensify my sorrow and grief. And so I tend to avoid it.

Or perhaps I avoid it because I worry that people will blame me for my own suffering. That’s what happened with Job. Job had suffered so much and his friends were sure it was his fault.  But Job knew that he had done nothing wrong.  And so Job lamented honestly.

It is only with honest lament, that we open ourselves up to God’s persistent grace and comfort.
