What is heaven like?

What is heaven like?  After the “is heaven real” question, the next one is what is it like?

Jesus spent a good portion of his ministry teaching about the Kingdom of Heaven, a kingdom where God’s will is done that is now but not yet. Heaven is like yeast, a lamp, treasure buried in a field.

I think when people ask that question, they are really asking about what is next.  What happens after you die?  What happened to my loved-ones after they died and what will happen to me?  This has been a question of people for a long time.  In Jesus’ time, there were Jews who believed in the afterlife and those who didn’t.  Those who did believe in an afterlife did a lot of arguing about what it would be like.

I once heard a person say that the next life won’t be heaven without learning. I dream of our church filled with English AND Spanish speakers.   So I spent the last 2 weeks at a Spanish immersion program in Mexico.  Learning a new language is just really uncomfortable.  I felt stupid most of the time.  And I come away amazed at how much I learned and grew as a Spanish speaker. It was less than 2 weeks and yet I grew so much.  It’s a reminder that God designed us for language, and we only have to open ourselves to the experience and learning happens.

Peace,

Pastor Mia
